καταιγιστικό metal τεύχος!
Ritchie Blackmore(ex-Deep Purple, Rainbow) – In my humble opinion this guy is inventor of classical metal and those medieval euro-riffing that we all know and love (see anything Gamma Ray, Helloween and so on). I don’t think you will find one guitar player on the planet that does not name Ritchie as a major influence in his/hers playing.
2. Tony Iommi(Back Sabbath, Iommi) – Inventor of Heavy Metal riffs. Not much you can say about the man but that he single handedly invented heavy metal guitar. Getting his fingertips cut by a metal press (no pun intended) was a blessing in disguise. You can use same amp, same guitar, and same style, be from same town and even have the same frickin haircut, but you will never replicate Tony’s doomy, evil yet haunting tone.
3. Jimmy Page (ex-Led Zeppelin) I was reluctant to put him on this list since Led Zeppelin is not really a metal band, but Jimmy’s talent for crafting manic riffs and influencing 80% plus guitar players around the world is undeniable.
4. Glen Tipton and K. K Downing (Judas Priest) – These two go together. You simply cannot mention one without mentioning the other one. Inventors of dual axe attacks (at least in metal). Just listen to their early work like “Sad Wings of Destiny” or “Stained Class” and you’ll know what I am talking about. No one (and I mean no one) played with such a ferocity and complexity at the time.
5. Michael Schenker (ex-UFO, MSG) –One of the most underrated guitar players of all time. A true underground God. I’ve seen this guy live and watched if he is going to make a mistake (since lot of people claim that he never does), and by god he did not. Or at least I could not hear it. Later in the paper he apologized about few mistakes he made in his playing that night.??? Like I said guy is incredible.
6. Dave MurrayandAdrian Smith (Iron Maiden) – Again, pair of axe masters per excellence. No one does dual leads with more elegance then these guys. It’s almost like dual guitar ballet.
7. James Hatfield (Metallica) – Agree or not, this guy has to be on this list if only for his lightning down picking style which defined metal riff ferocity, and “metal up your ass” (no pun intended) song structures.
8. Dave Mustain(Megadeth) It was between Dave and Jeff Henneman and Kerry King (Slayer), but I gave this place to Dave for originality. Jeff and Kerry are too influenced by Priest’s Glen and K.K to be on this list even though they’re pretty amazing. Dave Mustain on the other hand came up with some smoking riffs, plus he is technically very proficient.
9. Randy Rhoads (ex-Ozzy, Quiet Riot) The only reason he is not at the top is because his body of work is kinda short (not his fault thought).
10. Eddie Van Halen(Van Halen) Two hand tapping and tremolo picking is subject here. I doubt he was the first guy to utilize those technique (see Steve Hackett from Genesis and Brian May of Queen), but he was the one who made it famous
